Craps is a dice game in which the players make wagers on the outcome of the roll, or a series of rolls, of a pair of dice. Players may wager money against each other playing "street craps" or a bank playing " casino craps", also known as "table craps", or often just "craps". Because it requires little equipment, "street craps" can be played in informal settings. Craps developed in the United States from a simplification of the western European game of Hazard. The origins of Hazard are obscure and may date to the Crusades.
Hazard was brought from London to New Orleans about by the returning Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville , the young gambler and scion of a family of wealthy colonial Louisiana landowners. Both Hazard and its new offshoot were unfamiliar and rejected by Americans of his social class, leading de Marigny to introduce his novelty to the local underclass. Fieldhands taught their friends, and deckhands carried the new game up the Mississippi River.
Celebrating the popular success of his novelty, de Marigny gave the name Craps to a street in his New Orleans real estate development. The central game, called Pass from the French word for pace or step, has been gradually supplemented over the decades by many companion games which can be played simultaneously.
The entire collection of over one hundred separate and independent possible games is called Craps. The name Craps was a Louisiana mispronunciation of the word "crabs", which in London had been the joint epithet for the numbers two and three, which in Hazard are the only permanent instant losing numbers for wagers on Pass. For a century after its invention, Craps was abused by casinos using unfair dice. To remedy the problem, about a Philadelphia dice maker named John H.

A croupier or dealer is someone appointed at a gambling table to assist in the conduct of the game, especially in the distribution of bets and payouts. Croupiers are typically employed by casinos. Originally a 'croupier' meant one who stood behind a gambler, with extra reserves of cash to back him up during a gambling session.
The word derived from 'croup' the rump of a horse and was by way of analogy to one who rode behind on horseback. It later came to refer to one who was employed to collect the money from a gaming-table.
Originally a 'dealer' meant one who the person responsible for distributing cards or the player in the dealer position, regardless of whether or not that player is responsible for distributing the cards. Training methods to become a casino croupier vary from country to country. In North America, blackjack is almost always the game that dealers learn first, as it is simple and popular, and when the dealer makes errors, they tend not to cost the casino much money.
In Europe, croupiers tend to learn roulette first. Complex, busy games such as craps , with complicated payout systems, etc. American , Australian and British croupiers are required to apply for a gambling license.

I'm coming down this weekend and was wondering about the table minimums for blackjack and craps. I read a Golden Nugget review that the lowest min on a blackjack table is 25 dollars. I find that really hard to believe, I never seen that even at The Bellagio on a Saturday night.
I'm staying at L'auberge this weekend and am hoping to find 10 dollar mins on Blackjack and 5 mins at craps with 20x odds at night. Maybe 5 dollar mins on the blackjack tables during the day. L' and Golden Nugget is offering ridiculous prices. The hotel rates are off the charts for the Nugget, so go with L' if you really want to stay at either casino.
The table min's are ridiculous. Friday night at the L' they were 15 at Craps and Blackjack. Didn't go to Nugget that night. Saturday night they were 25 at the nugget and 20 craps 15 blackjack at the L'. By 2am, everything was 25 at L'. As I said before, I have never seen this kind of minimum in my life. There is Island of Capri on the Northern end to check out, so if you are going to Lake Charles for table games check them out; I have heard they are cheaper. But don't expect vegas style minimum table on a weekend night.
Don't go to Lake Charles for table games, on the weekends a hotel is going to be at least close to the casinos. Might be more reasonable on the weekdays, but from what I hear its not. Go to Vegas instead, book a hotel at the South end or Downtown for better table limits. You can always find 10 dollar limits in Vegas on a weekend night. On a side note: I had them call me one and I got "Capitol G" taxi. He was an independent taxi breaking all kinds of laws on our 2 mile, 10 dollar trip.
I will never visit a L' casino again based on that taxi call alone. The hotel room was fine, but I don't like the service. We researched first and found - A total of 8 cabs were inspected in Nov from different companies, and six citations were issued. This topic has been closed to new posts due to inactivity.
